How Do I Know When I’m Ready for Advising?

If you’re asking the question, you’re probably close.
Seeking an advisor isn’t something you do because you’re lost.
It’s something you do because you want to lead with more clarity. It could be when you're feeling lost or too isolated. That's a great time to find the right advisor to support. It could be when you're facing a challenge and need experienced insight.
Most of the time people reach out when they’re standing in some kind of fog—too many options, too many ideas, too many directions, too much to keep running daily—with no time to plan them all out.
Here are a few signs you might be ready:
You’re doing well, but your growth feels chaotic or unrooted
You’ve tried different solutions, but they don’t fully click
You’re holding it all together in your head—strategy, people, tension, future plans—and need that to shift so you have space for the bigger picture
You want to have time to work on your long-term strategy, but aren’t sure exactly where to start
You’re navigating change and you want support that isn’t extractive or performative (initial growth, scaling, pivoting, fundraising, launching new services/products, etc.)
Being ready doesn’t mean you’re at a crisis point. It means you’re ready to reflect, pause, and plan for the long-term.
Advising isn’t about being “coached” or “fixed.” It’s about doing the real work of aligning who you are with how you lead and where you’re taking your business.
It's a combination of personal leadership growth and developing a deeper business acumen as you grow.
How To Get Started
If you know your business could grow more sustainably or your work could feel less overwhelming, but you haven’t had the time or space to slow down and figure it out… that’s usually the right time.
